Successful evening dedicated to Coral Awareness

During the Coral Happy Hour over 80 interested people attended two interesting presentations on coral restoration and coral education in the hotels’ beautiful Belle Alliance hall. They then left for Avila’s cozy Blues Bar. There, while enjoying snacks and drinks, they could enjoy live acoustic music by Oscar and Manique and win great prizes with the Coral Raffle.

Farley Hollander, manager of the Avila Beach Hotel, looks back on a very successful evening. Hollander: ‘ We would like this event to return annually to keep the public informed about the great importance of Coral Restoration and Coral Education on Curacao!’

Interesting presentations on Coral Restoration and Coral Education

During the happy hour, Max van Aalst, founder of the Branch Coral Foundation, gave and interesting presentation supported by beautiful underwater photos and videos on how his foundation sets up and manages coral nurseries to protect the reef at four different locations.

In addition, Maya Mathias, founder of the GreenKidz Foundation, provided a brief and colorful presentation on the Coral Heroes curriculum that GreenKidz designed with Carmabi. These education programs are executed at regular and special local schools in Curacao with some of the lessons also taking place at Avila Beach Hotel.

To the public

All lesson materials can be freely downloaded from www.greenkidz.org and www.carmabi.org for schools and students who want to know more about our beautiful coral reef.

The GreenKidz Foundation was established in 2015 with the goal of ‘Changing the mindset of generations’. In recent years we have reached thousands of students and hundreds of teachers with modern, multilingual environmental education. In the coming years we will focus on young people throughout the Dutch Caribbean with innovative nature and environmental education and (digital) learning programs.
